Doing Summer in Style
at
9:59 AM
Saturday morning….Jump out of bed, throw my hair up in a loose bun, put on a t-shirt, skirt and flip-flops and rush downtown…It is officially time to start my favorite summertime ritual…The Farmers Market
Walking through busy streets filled by local vendors displaying bright red tomatoes, huge heads of cabbage and the most vivid and beautiful flowers …this is how your journey will begin. Your soul starts to wake up as your eyes think I cannot possibly take in any more colors…and then your nose…oh your nose…coffee….is that? Yes…It is!!…freshly baked cinnamon rolls, pies, breads…..and the ever-popular breakfast burrito. Indian food, Thai food, Dutch letters…..how could you ever possibly decide!!! How could you deny your taste buds what your nose could only describe as an eclectic arrangement of delight? You walk past people selling all types of wine, cheese, brightly colored clothes, and unique hand-crafted jewelry. The artistry, the culture…it’s a visual joyride.
You feel yourself being drawn to what appears to be a stand that is exuding the aroma of nuts bathed in butter, sugar and cinnamon and then roasted for good measure. You hand over the cash and the man smiles as he hands you your little almond, cashew and pecan-filled paper cone.
You smile back and turn, walking; you begin to unwrap it like a gift and pop one in your mouth. You stop for a second, take in the smell, the taste…tip your head back and feel the sun on your face, the breeze gently kissing you on the cheeks……then you hear it….Faint violin and cello coming from one direction….a Flute and Acoustic guitar coming from the other. Kids laughing, people of all colors and backgrounds talking in languages you can’t understand, but you are sure they are all saying the same thing…. "Isn’t it wonderful to be alive”
I'm so there, Middlest :)
