I have had several friends over the years request my help in decorating and furnishing their homes. For me this is an utter delight as I take great joy in all things STYLISH. For me, my home is a place of retreat, relaxation, and it most definitely is a reflection of my personal style. Does anyone else have the problem of when your house is not in order, you just don't feel right? When Mamma gets grumpy in this house its time to pick up your toys and restore beauty and sanity.
For this week I thought I would feature some shots of my living room. This is the first room that welcomes guests as they step into my home. With my traditional style, and love of antiques, I have furnished this space in a way that marries old and new for a comfortable, usable space. This living room isn't just for show... its for living!
Don't be afraid to mix furniture styles. Its a big no-no to walk into a store and pick a matching sofa, loveseat and chair. Don't be so predictable. Mix up styles and patterns for a more fresh and updated look.
Think simple when it comes to tablescapes. Nothing too heavy or busy... you want your guests eyes to move around the room and not get stuck in one spot.
Good style and design consists of formal and informal balance. On this end of my living room I went for formal balance flanking each side of my antique armoire with matching chairs and artwork.
Mix patterns! You can see here I have a floral loveseat with a patterned pillow and patterned drape behind. Even though these are each strong on their own, mixing them all is an unexpected surprise. Use pattern, texture and layers to wow your guests!
Now, go get busy in your own space. Shop around your house to find pieces you already have and give them new life by mixing them up and using them in new ways. Our styles are evolving and changing everyday so be sure to make your home a reflection of the BEST you.

Hey Al,
Trying to refind your blog today, my 'cookies' brought me back to this comment- just FYI my new blogging friend :) - if you respond to people below where they have written to you, ordinarily they wouldn't see it- unless they just happened to go back to the comments of that post. It doesn't notify people like FB.
Love,
