How to Mend a Broken Heart

So... this piece of advice may not be what you are expecting. When I say broken heart... I don't mean the sad, love-lost kind of ache... I mean the real heart is out-of-whack, needs help, broken kind of heart.

Our father (the Original Sonny) went in for a meeting with a heart specialist on Monday afternoon. We knew that there had been some calcification on his aortic value for a while now, but we were unaware of how serious things may be. When the specialist/surgeon met with Dad and reviewed his records, he wouldn't let Dad leave without surgery slated for that very next morning! So with no room for hesitation, and Mom's blessing, Dad went in for open heart surgery yesterday morning at 7:30am.

We are a family of faith and praise God for all of the prayers and support from friends and family that brought Dad through that surgery with much success. The love and affection was felt by us all there anxiously waiting the news. Its been a whirlwind of days that seem to all run together now but as each day comes, the healing continues and the baby steps toward recovery are celebrated! The pain is present, as evidence in our fathers eyes, but the spirit is hopeful, and excited for the new journey ahead.

The 3 of us sisters have been able to be here together to support mom, dad and each other. The sleep has been sporadic, hearts have been heavy, and emotions high... but as the stitches and staples keep dad's heart together and in place, I pray this experience can weave us sisters closer together as well.

As you face the stress and hurdle in your week, we encourage you to keep your feet firm, your head on straight and tackle whatever the world brings your way. Don't let the worry and uncertainty of tomorrow be a roadblock. Live each moment and celebrate each baby step forward. Just KEEP moving forward.

Thanks to friends and family.... Love to Dad... the Oldest
